product description
Balenciaga late 70s/ early 80s vintage coat dress by Cristobal Balenciaga. This is truly a historical piece of fashion. In a stunning duck egg blue, this archival gem designed by Cristobal Balenciaga himself, is mid length (skims just above the knee ) with three-quarter sleeves, giving a slender, elegant silhouette. As the master of sculpting new silhouettes, Cristobal can be credited with so many of the different styles of dresses we see today. His fearless pursuit of applying architectural lines to new shapes led to creations, such as the sack dress of the 50s, then later the cocoon dress. You can see that mindset in his design of this dress, which is in some ways an evolution of the aforementioned styles. Belongs in a museum really but I’m ready to let her go. 6 metallic buttons (not finishes but metal) front closure, pocket peplum-esque flaps , & adorable buckle clasp below a graphic V fold at the back. This archival piece is a lost gem in the evolutionary timeline of Balenciaga. Size 38 FR, fits a medium. Measurement estimates Bust 38” Waist 37” Length 35.5” No material stated. Feels like a wool blend. In pvery good shape, very minor fading on shoulders
about BALENCIAGA
The House Of Balenciaga A fashion house founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1918, this Spanish born designer was known for his unmatchable eye to detail in the art of couture making. His pieces showed uncompromising standards which led the designer Christian Dior to refer to Balenciaga as the "the master of us all". Trademarks of Balenciaga's where evident as he progressed. Odd, feminine, yet undoubtedly modern shapes where some of the many. Balenciaga was also known for starting his shows with a Little Black dress in the season's cut, but put to work his architecturally driven mind to derive an ultra modern form of what was once a traditional LBD, into a highly sought after "IT" piece.
